A stone throw away from Sandton City lies a leisure complex attracting a little under 10 million annual visitors from all over the world, this is Montecasino.

 

What is Montecasino

Montecasino is an entertainment and leisure complex designed to simulate the experience of an ancient Italian city.
It includes a stone walkway throughout the entire complex. The building textures, indoor trees and a ceiling painted to replicate the day and night sky make a great way for hours of visual entertainment.

 

Why you should visit Montecasino

The first thing one notices when entering Montecasino is that you instantly feel as if you are no longer in Johannesburg. Even without the other activities available, simply admiring the design is an activity offering ample photo opportunities. Other activities to do at Montecasino include;

    • The Casino
      The casino here opened in November 2000 and has since been on the list of top 10 casinos in the whole world. The casino offers tables, slots and casino promotions and is open from 07h00 daily.

    • The Teatro
      Capable of holding almost 2000 people, the Teatro at Montecasino is the largest in South Africa and is one of the 10 largest lyric theatres in the world. Musical productions are a theme at the Teatro which hosted the Disney Musical “The Lion King”.

  • Bird & Wildlife Park
    This bird sanctuary, the only one of its kind on the African continent has more than 60 different species of reptiles, birds and other small animals. Animals that can be seen here include snakes, a variety of amphibians, sloths, lemurs, flamingos and over 500 plants across 37 species. Bird shows are held daily that aim to educate and entertain visitors.

  • Bambini Crèche
    A fully equipped indoor crèche is available for children aged between 1 – 12 years of age at Montecasino. The creche offers activities such as Lego building, reading, painting, dance classes, jungle gyms and a sleeping room. At any given time the Creche is teeming with experienced and trained childminders to ensure your child’s safety around the clock.

Entrance to Montecasino is free of charge however some activities will require payment for a ticket.

Tickets to the Teatro vary based on the production on show. Upcoming shows and prices can be found online.
